Machabeng College – Introduction About Us Machabeng College –

International School of Lesotho is an English Medium School which opened in 1977 in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Lesotho Ministry of Education.

Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Queen of the Kingdom of Lesotho, is the Patron of Machabeng College.

The school is a national asset, sited on government property, and within the constitutional framework is answerable to the Principal Secretary of Education.

The school is a fully accredited international institution of learning, functioning within a national context.

It is open to all academically qualified students, regardless of religious affiliation or national origin.

The school was founded as a joint initiative by the Ministry of Education and representatives of the Maseru English Medium Preparatory School.

Its name, ‘Machabeng’, which is the Sesotho word for ‘international’, was chosen by the first group of students in 1977.

Machabeng has an optimum size of 500+ day and boarding students, of both genders, ranging in age from 11 to 20+ years.

The school community is composed of more than 40 different nationalities.

The staff size, including both teaching and non-teaching personnel is over 60.

The school grounds comprise approximately 4 hectares of land,

including a playing field, adjacent to the Royal Palace, close to the centre of Maseru, the capital of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Patron

Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso.

Her Majesty The Queen is the Queen Consort of His Majesty King Letsie III of The Kingdom of Lesotho.

She studied at Machabeng International College from 1990-1996 where she completed her International General Certificate

for Secondary Education and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Her Majesty The Queen has been very supportive towards the College activities

and kindly graces many of the College events with her presence.

Governance

The Machabeng College Board of Governors is a team consisting of selected parents

and staff concerned with the healthy running and advancement of the college.

The members of this team come together from various walks of life

and coalesce their skills and experiences to create a continually progressive environment at Machabeng.

Attendance Policy

Machabeng College is committed to the continuous raising of achievement of all our pupils.

Students make the greatest progress and achieve the best results when their attendance is regular and uninterrupted.

Punctuality is a crucial personal characteristic valued by the school and employers alike.

It has been proven that there is a strong correlation between success and attendance,

hence regular attendance is critical if students are to be successful.

To minimise students being educationally and socially disadvantaged and to prevent them becoming involved in crime

or abuse the college views the maximising of attendance rates as one of its key aims.

The Board Of Governors Of Machabeng College International School Of Lesotho

Machabeng College is an English Medium School,

which opened in 1977 in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Education.

The school is a national asset, sited on Government property, and within the constitutional framework is answerable to the Principal Secretary of Education.

The school is a fully accredited International Institution of learning functioning within a national context.

It is open to all academically qualified students, regardless of religious affiliation or national origin.

The Board of Governors of Machabeng College is the governing authority of the school.

The Board shall act in the best interest of the school in consideration of the current and the future population and community.

The Board shall ensure that Machabeng College community members are heard, participate and are treated fairly.

The responsibility for the day-to-day management, operations and administration of the school shall be delegated, by the Board,

to the Headmaster who will be accountable to the Board for the efficient operation of the school in accordance with the law of Lesotho.

Chinese Bridge Competition

Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students

On the 3rd of September 2017, the The People’s Republic Of China embassy

and Machabeng College through the Confucius Classroom organized the 10th Chinese Bridge Competition

and The voice of friendship Chinese Speech Competition which were both the first such events in Lesotho at Maseru Avani.

Present at this event were the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China,

the Minister of education, the embassy staff, Machabeng College senior management,

the Confucius Classroom Directors, the Chinese business community,

the Limkokwing international tourism Mandarin students, Participants, Machabeng College Students, friends and well wishers.

The voice of friendship was entered by people from all walks of life who had a Chinese language learning experience either in Lesotho or in China.

Some of these participants had learnt Mandarin at the Confucius Classroom at Machabeng College.

The other competition, Chinese Bridge Competition was only entered by Machabeng College IB Mandarin students.

All competitors got awards and cash prizes.

The two finalists from Machabeng college named Tsepiso Motsamai and Michael Moleka both got one thousand Maloti cash prizes

and a fully sponsored two weeks stay in China where they will be representing Lesotho at the global stage of this competition.

We wish them all luck! We are looking forward to them bringing trophies home.

The same event will be held again next year.
